Une baleine, des inscriptions japonaises, et un tampon signé « JOY!« , histoire de s’approprier le tout.

Il suffit d’être curieux et de chercher un petit peu, pour découvrir que ces symboles apposés sur la pochette de ce nouvel EP, ne sont pas là par hasard. Il s’agit ici d’un hommage à Wakako Matsumoto, célèbre voix-off de mangas japonais, aka KUJIRA (et aussi surnommée « la baleine »). Les deux frères de Montpellier nous invitent donc à traverser le globe, nous sommes au pays du soleil levant, bon réveil.

La baleine nous invite dans une introduction intime, sa voix frêle nous chuchotant quelques doux mots japonais, doublée de quelques bips mélodieux, la première minute n’est même pas atteinte que nous sommes attaqués d’un lourd beat, un semblant d’électronica et d’électro minimaliste, qui forme une atmosphère fraîche et spatiale. C’est prenant et entêtant, un plongeon de près de six minutes sur ce titre éponyme. De la rouille et de l’huile, mélange de matière, que l’on vous laisse traduire à votre guise. Sur « Rust & Oil », on se croirait numérisé dans une Game Boy, où une superposition de sonorités numériques et de jeux d’arcades pénètrent votre esprit, accompagnés d’un rythme échauffé et redoutablement entraînant. Surement le titre le plus « étrange » de l’Ep. Insula Derelicta, le troisième, fait preuve d’un perfectionnisme hors pair, mélange d’électronique progressive et de musique tropicale, acidulées en nappes mélodieuses et féeriques. Un jardin qui fleurit à vu de nez, des changements subtiles et spontanés, rappelant la pureté d’un certain « The North Borders », le dernier album de Bonobo.

Un appel au voyage. L’incarnation de la douceur se fait sur le final, « Still Lovely » au petites notes pétillantes nous faisant penser à Telepopmusik. Longues et légères lignes de basse, c’est dans la fluidité que nos corps sont entraînés, voguant doucement dans les eaux froides de la Mer Du Japon, accompagnés de la Baleine… Joy rime avec « Enjoy » et ce n’est pas pour rien, leur univers onirique et leur facilité à donner réponse au mystère qu’ils créent eux même, est quasi fascinante.

Nul doute, Boxon pose ici une de ses meilleurs cartes.

A whale, Japanese inscriptions, and a stamp signed « JOY! », so we can appropriate us everything.
We just have to be curious and look for a little bit,  to discover that these symbols on the cover of this new EP, are not there by chance. This is a tribute to Wakako Matsumoto, famous voiceover of Japanese mangas, aka Kujira (also called « the Whale »). Then the brothers in Montpellier invite us to cross the globe, we are in the land of rising sun, good awakening.

The whale invites us into an intimate introduction, her frail voice whispering us some sweet Japanese words, coupled with some melodious beeps, the first minute is not even reached that we are attacked with a heavy beat, a semblance of electronica minimalist electro, which forms a cool atmosphere and space. It’s addictive and intoxicating, a dip of nearly six minutes on the eponymous title.
On « Rust & Oil », we feel like digitized in a Game Boy, where a superposition of digital sounds and arcade games penetrate your mind, accompanied by a heated and frighteningly leading pace. Probably the most « strange » title of the EP.
« Insula Delectica », third title, demonstrates an unparalleled perfectionism, mixing progressive electronic with tropical music, acidulated in melodious and enchanting pads. A garden that roughly blooms, subtle and spontaneous changes, recalling the purity of a certain « The North Borders », the latest album from Bonobo.
A call to travel. The incarnation of the softness is the final, the sparkling notes of « Still Lovely » making us think at Telepopmusik. Long and light bass lines, it is in the fluidity that our bodies are driven, sailing gently in the cold waters of the Sea Of Japan, together with the Whale… JOY! rhymes with « Enjoy » and it is not for nothing, their dreamlike world and their easiness to answer to the mystery they create themselves is almost fascinating.

No doubt, Boxon arises here one of its best cards.
